Cash transfers are an approach that can be used to alleviate poverty. Cash transfers are a form of income redistribution, in which excess wealth from the upper income brackets is redistributed among the lower income brackets. Cash transfer programs are most frequently run by governments and funded by tax revenues.

Conditional cash transfers are used cash transfer programs in which participants must meet certain requirements (i.e. educational progress, employment progress) to recieve their transfer.
